How to clean a frog or frog legs.

The 1st step in learning how to clean frogs or frog legs is you need some frogs.  So check your state frog legs hunting regulations, gather up your frog hunting gear and lets get yourself some frogs.  Many states require that you transport only dead frogs.  So with that said, it will depend on how you hunt and capture your frogs for your frog legs in if they are dead or not when you physically take possession of them.  Meaning if you net or hand capture them, you are going to need to kill them then or before you take them home.  If you shoot them with a pellet or bb gun or bow and arrow chances that they are dead are pretty good, but we suggest that you double check.

This is all a part of how to clean frogs for frog legs.  If you are out gigging or taking them with a rod and reel or noose, again, the frogs may or may not be dead.  There are MANY different way to ake sure that the frogs are dead but if you hold them by their back legs and bang their head aginst something hard and solid, that should do the trick.  Or stick a sharp knive through their head/brain <<<<< sorry about that folks,......but you have to kill the frogs some how either then or at home, it's just part of it unless your gunna get a ticket or have clean live frogs for their frog legs. Some say that you can freeze them but if you can only transport dead frogs,....you don't have this choice unless you have a freezer in the back of your car or truck.

Okay folks, we are getting to the good part of How To Clean A Frog or Frog Legs.  Its actually easier and less messy than cleaning fish if you ask us.  If you do it right and take your time, you can have a boat load of fresh cleaned frog legs with little to no mess, blood or guts at all.  Just some dismembered frogs to dispose of.

So at this point you have a bag, cooler, bucket or the like filled with your states limit of bullfrogs and they are all dead looking at you ready to be cleaned.  Here we will walk you through the steps of the actual cleaning of the frogs.  All of the meat on a frog is in and on the hind legs.  There is small amounts of meat on some of the rest of the frog, but unless you are in a survival situation, you won't want to mess with that.  Below will be how to clean a frog or frog legs learning portion of the article  :-)  So lets pay attention.

Your gunna need the following when learning how to clean a frog or frog legs:
--Big Fat Frogs
--Sturdy surface to clean frogs on like a cleaning board or table
--Very sharp knife like a fillet knife
--Plyers or even better are Catfish skinning/cleaning plyers
--Bowl of clean water for rinsing
--Bowl to put cleaned frog legs in
--Clean towel
--Bag or something to put the frog remains in for disposal

STEP #1 How To Clean A Frog Or Frog Legs.
Grab yourself one of your big fat bullfrogs.  Take a once over quick lookie lookie and make sure that it is dead.  If if is not, grab it by the legs and wack its head against something solid and hard. It's time to skin your frog, this is the 1st part of learning how to clean a frog for frog legs.

Lay the frog on it's back with it's legs spread. Take a very sharp knife and along the very lower portion of the frogs belly, make a cut through the FROG SKIN ONLY, you don't want to be cutting into the guts of the frog.  If you do cut into the guts of the frog, no worries, it may just be a bit more messy.

STEP #2 How To Clean A Frog or Frog Legs.
Now flip the frog over onto it's stomach.  Along the same place and area of the BACK of the frogs back, make another cut across the frogs back so that the cut is only skin deep. At this point in learning how to clean a frog or frog legs you have a scored frog ready for skinning and cleaning.

STEP #3 How To Clean A Frog Or Frog Legs.
You will need some plyers or even better than that are some catfish skinning plyers.  You can also do it by hand but at least using plyers will be a but more easier when you are learning how to clean a frog or frog legs for the 1st time.

At the point where you scored the frogs skin on either the BACK or the FRONT, grab the edge of the frogs skin at the leg side of the frogs skin.  Once you have a good grip of the frogs skin on either the front or the back, hold the frogs upper body and simply pull the skin down toward the frogs legs and feet. The frogs skin should peal off very easily.|

Now the skin may have ripped and left some of the skin on the frogs legs.  If this is the case, simply take your plyers, grab the remaining skin and pull in the same fashion that you just did.

If when you start pulling the frogs skin off, you pull from the bully side some and then you switch to the back side of the frog some, the frogs skin will basically peel off just like you were taking off some of your tight blue jeans.  Same concept.  You will very quickly see how and what is the best way for you when it comes to how to clean a frog or frog legs specifically the skinning part of it all.

STEP #4 How To Clean A Frog Or Frog Legs.
Now take the frog without it's lower frog leg skin on and cut or clip of his feet on both legs.  Now you want to take your knife or a heavier knife and at a point just above the frogs thigh muscle and at the point to where the frogs spine or back bone connects into the top of the frog legs, cut at this point through the back bone.

So there you have it, you now have a perfect super fresh set of Frog Legs ready to freeze or cook up for a super yummy snack or dinner.  Be sure to rinse the frog legs well and get them at least on some ice or in the fridge until you are ready to actually cook them.  This is super easy way to learn how to clean a frog or frog legs.  Really, there is not that much to it, it's harder to clean fish in out opinion.

STEP #5 How To Clean A Frog Or Frog Legs.
Now its basically just clean up.  Wash all of your tools and cleaning and or cutting boards and surfaces well.  Again, put your cleaned frog legs on ice or in the fridge or freeze them until you are ready to use them.  Take the rest of your frog legs parts, bag them up and put them in the trash.  I wouldn't't let them sit in the trash too long and especially not during the hot months.  We usually bag the remaining frog body parts and freeze them.  When we load up the trash to take to the local dump, we simply throw that in with out trash so that it is still frozen and we don't have any issues with stinky or rotten frog parts.

STEP #6 How To Clean A Frog or Frog Legs
